A dangerous dresser's blog about dressing dangerously.
It has been my experience that there is a fine line between gawdy and fresh. Take this shirt as an example. This peice is a vintage (most likely late 80’s early 90’s) striped shirt by the designer, Dash. It has a really interesting colour scheme that is lost a little bit in the photo but you get the idea. How do I know a shirt with no defining features is from the aforementioned time period? I did my research. <3 The key to making a good purchase is being well infomred about the clothing you’re veiwing. The Dash company was an English company that was only around for a  few years before being bought by a separate clothing organization. Because Dash was only Dash from the late 80’s to the early 90’s, it is a pretty safe bet that this piece is from the same chunk of time <3. See? That wasnt so hard.
Anyway, this shirt (though I did eventually sell it) was the perfect blend of in your face colour with subtle, simple design. Now I’ll be the first to admit that stripes, especially horizontal ones, can sometimes seem a bit hard to pull off. Even as I put on a shirt with stripes, a deep, dark part of me hesitates just for a split second, before I put my arms through the sleeves. Truthfully, there is nothing to be afraid of as long as you are confident with what you have on. If you aren’t you will regret it because when you lose confidence in what you are wearing, you lose confidence in who you are.  Believe me, stripes smell fear.
However, if worn correctly, stripes do a great job of being both fun an subtle at the same time. In other words, it makes your appearance look complicated and hard to pull off without it ACTUALLY being that complicated and that hard to pull off. “All that for a silly striped shirt?” says you. “Yeah,” says me.
